Giclee Prints

Giclee Prints
- Giclée (zhee-klay) is a French term that means a spray or spurt of liquid. In the giclee reproduction process, archival inks are sprayed onto various media surfaces such as canvas, fine art, and photo based paper. Giclee prints are created from Fine Art Printer's that contain 8-Color to 12-Color inks such as Epson, Roland, Hewlett-Packard, Mimaki, and many more. Unlike traditional lithograph prints, a giclee print derives from a high resolution digital scan that can be reused over and over again. This process renders better color accuracy and higher detail than traditional printing methods. Artist's can also make giclee prints "on demand" and don't have to worry about mass producing their prints through a manufacturing company, which can be costly up front. Artist's can also choose the size of a print edition so the rarity of an image will appreciate in value over time. Since giclee's are much less expensive than originals, art lovers can also have the pleasure of buying a high quality art reproduction at a fraction of the price, while still being able to invest in a valuable piece of art.

3 Giclee Editions Offered

  1. Canvas Prints - (Limited Edition of 25) These giclee prints are made using an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer using ultrachrome pigmented inks. The printing surface used for these prints are 100% archival Premier Art Water Resistant Canvas. The maximum printable surface area for the Epson 2200 is 13"x44", so canvas prints cannot exceed 11" wide because atleast 2" are needed to stretch the canvas paper over stretcher bars. The canvas prints come unframed. They do however come with brushed in edges using acrylic paint (see example below) so that the artwork can be hung as is or the customer has the option of framing the artwork to their liking. A digital UV coating is sprayed on the front of the print and the sides to prevent from fading. Framing wire and D-rings are also attached on the back, so the canvas print can be immediately hung.

The canvas prints are also accompanied by a "Certificate of Authenticity" signifying that the canvas print is an original reproduction made by the artist. All certificates of authenticity are signed by the artist and include the edition number. The actual canvas print itself will also be signed and numbered on the reverse side since certificates can be misplaced over time. All of Long's canvas prints are part of a limited edition run of 25 per painting. Once the cap of 25 canvas prints have been reached for a particular painting, no other canvas prints will be made of that painting so that the value of the print remains rare.

  2. Premium Luster Photo Prints - (Unlimited Edition) These giclee prints are made using an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer using ultrachrome pigmented inks. The printing surface used for these prints are 100% archival Premium Luster Photo Paper. Premium Luster Photo Prints can come in 8.5"x11" ($15), 11"x17" ($20), or 13"x19" ($25) and come unmatted. When ordering luster photo prints from the website, please note that not all the sizes are offered. If you would like a larger size than the one offered, please email the artist at jjartworks@gmail.com or call the studio at 617-803-7804 to talk about a special order. The luster photo prints are part of an "Unlimited Edition" and DO NOT include a "Certificate of Authenticity". Luster photo prints are the cheapest prints offered and since they are unlimited, will not really increase in value. Customers may want to purchase a Canvas Print if they are concerned with artwork appreciating in value.

  3. Framed Photo Prints - (Unlimited Edition) These framed premium luster photo prints come matted on Spanish white archival matt board and are protected by UV glass inside an 11x14" black frame. If you would like a larger size than the one offered (ie. a framed 11x17" photo print), please email the artist at jjartworks@gmail.com or call the studio at 617-803-7804 to talk about a special order. The benefit of buying a framed photo print is that it saves you the time and hassle of going to a frame shop, getting a custom matt cut, and picking out and buying a frame. This is one stop shopping people =)
